SHARE THE ARTICLE
Ramilia Up is an international singer and model now based in NYC. I’ve met Ramilia in one of the fashion outings in New York and fell in love with her bubbly open personality, her talents and strong ambition to be an artist. Ramilia started her journey as a classical pianist, had a thousand of successful performances in music industry and now she is in modeling as well. Recently she moved to the US and starting her career here.
Ramilia tell us about your new start in NYC and actually when do you think you felt strong pull to build your career in the US? What was that?
Probably, when I realized that my dreams and goals are bigger than I thought. I was born in a small republic. It seemed there wasn’t enough opportunities for me. My dreams (ahaha) are massively ambitious. I wanted to live where nobody knows where I am from and what is my life about, so I will be judged for my talents only. NYC is very competitive and it helps to dream even bigger.
As a performer could you tell us if it was terrifying going on stage for the first time?
Wow, I don’t remember my first stage performance. But I’m pretty sure I had some strong excitement and even got some pre-performance jitters. I get very emotional when I sing in my mother language, in my Tatar language. It makes me vulnerable. It touches me to the depth. Especially songs about home.
How you started your modeling journey? how you got involved? And what is your plan for the future?
That’s a very funny story. I wanted a photoshoot in NYC, with its authenticity, skyscrapers, streets. So I found a photographer. What’s funny is that during the shoot I felt so inspired, happy and it seemed to me I was doing that forever… hehe.. when I’ve got to see the results I’ve been amazed by how I look and how NY fits me! And I said to myself I am a model. And I let it be!
What are you limits as a fashion model? How far you can go to succeed in this career?
I have my values, principals and of course limits. I would love to follow my heart and do what I feel it’s good to do. I 100% would not do so-called “tape” fashion. Cause being hot, seductive, being sexy is not about being naked, it’s about the energy, very strong powerful energy. So I choose to spread the strong energy instead.
What inspired to create this editorial? It is beautiful and you look very different on the pictures.
This editorial was created specifically for FXLB magazine. The goal was to showcase my personality from different perspectives. When I first reached out to our stylist, Mikhaela, she interviewed me for about 2 hours… I was a little shocked because she really got in-depth by asking me different questions. The results are reflecting, fluidity, my journey as an artist, a bit of craziness, that every musician has, I guess, and being soft, feminine but strong at the same time.
What do you value the most?
What comes to my values are staying true to my beliefs and pursuing my dreams along with them is something really worthy.
In people I value sincerity, being trustworthy and honest. In the modern world it is hard to find someone who is true and authentic so these above mentioned qualities indeed something that I look for in people. I admire people being open minded, having positive mindset with no limitations, broad like a universe itself. I should admit it makes me feel super inspired when someone strongly believes in something. Oh and of course great passion for thinking out of the box.
What are the most difficult steps in starting career from nothing? Any tips?
I would say everything. The thing is you don’t even know where to start from, what to do first, where is the castings, how to act, what to wear, how to speak, what to sing and etc. I would recommend an aspiring artists, models, musicians at first work on their confidence and portfolio.
What makes you special in modeling business?
Love that question! I guess being not only a model itself. I realized that if you want to become a well-known and demanded model you have to be not just one. Cause even agencies, their most important question is ‘how many followers on IG you have” or tiktok. funny right. When we cared about social media that much. As a model you have to be a stylist, a digital creator, an influencer, a person with thousand skills, a makeup artist and more and more and more.
What modeling is and what is not?
America has showed me that modeling is more about personality, expression, inner strength, uniqueness. It’s about you being able to break stereotypes. For those who doesn’t know, to become a successful runway model you have to be at least 5’9. And I’m absolutely not that tall=) But I am a part of the runway! And I can’t be more proud and happy about that!
Do you have any idols or people you admire and want to learn from or follow?
I absolutely adore Lady Gaga and her journey. And I’d like to make a compliment to her talent agent, she has the greatest agent, each of her movie roles is a hundred percent match to her personality. I am on a search of my “perfect” agent now. Also I love the journey of Jay Shetty, I do listen to his podcast named “on purpose” almost every day. The thoughts, and practices he is sharing are so helpful.
Name few celebrities you would like to collaborate with?
Lady Gaga, Jessie J and Tina Karol. They inspire me and I admire their journey a lot!
Do you believe in success will find you or you need to work for it?
I believe that you need to pursue your purpose and success will definitely find you on your way! I believe in dreams and their ability to come true, but only with our own help.
How music affects the rest of the life? How do your hobbies help with your daily life?
Music have changed my life and keep changing it for the best! I’ve met too many wonderful people because of music, I’ve got involved into different opportunities because of the music. Music impact depression, productivity, and my perception of the world. As well as it helps me to control the emotions. Music can be used to relieve pain, can be used to relieve stress and anxiety, can boost immune system function, and there are a range of studies that link music to happiness and pleasure in different ways. Music might be a cure to us!
Is there something everybody should do on a daily basis?
Absolutely! Something that makes them/you happy. It could be anything from cup of tea to a face massage or meditation.
Lately Im returning my morning routine which is facial massage, stretching and exercises. I used to meditate daily but lately I stopped and right this moment I’m on my way back to my daily meditation.
Ramilia, Are you in love?
I am always in love! Love is something that helps me to move forward.
You know a few languages and we were curious what language do you think on?
I guess it depends what language I’m speaking right at the moment. It is fascinating how human brain works and how we can express ourselves in a different languages depending on the message you want to send.
In your industry, many people sacrifice family time, family values for their careers, your attitude to this?
Any career needs some sacrifices to be honest, maybe art require some extra! I’m sure that is everybody’s choice. It is so important to stick to your principles, your purpose, your passion. I strongly believe that if you in a relationship with a partner you can rely on, you could handle family life and career at the same time. Just some strong time management skills, discipline and understanding is must-have for sure!
Do you write a music? Are you a songwriter?
Yes, I had written music before and I now I want to make it a habit, so in the future I would perform my own compositions. It is a big struggle to find songs that resonate with your soul, your life perception, your principles… I love meaningful lyrics, deep melodies so I could talk to the listener through music and deliver the message. That’s what I am looking for in songs.
And do you believe in love at first sight?
I do. I do believe there is some chemistry that can happen between people right away. But for a long-lasting relationships more needed.
What unites all that you are doing in your life?
Creativity, It’s all about creative work!
