Every kid is born with a certain set of skills. Some are great at writing, some excel at singing, etc. But what’s certain, regardless of their talent, is that all children are creative in one way or another. And that’s something that you can see from an early age, when they draw either some imaginary creatures they “talk to”, or the characters they’ve seen in movies, cartoons, books, and other places.Nurturing that side of them is always nice. This doesn’t mean that you want them to become painters or whatever, but just to remind them of how wonderful it is when they explore and experiment with that creative world. If you share this opinion, as well, then stick with us, because we will help you awaken that side of them even more!
Kids are often interested in exploring a bunch of different things, but they sometimes give up on these ventures because they don’t feel as if it’s allowed for them to do it. That’s why you need to create a space where they’ll feel free to do it.Now, this doesn’t need to be anything fancy, no real art studio, but just a regular space (it can be in your home, too!) that you’ll equip with all the tools that they can use for this endeavor. As soon as your kiddo sees it, they’ll know they can feel comfortable expressing their creative side.Even if things get messy and chaotic, don’t get upset because of it. At the end of the day, art needs to be a bit hectic, right? That will make your little one even more comfortable, which is one of the goals.
Wanting what’s best for your kiddo is totally understandable; however, what’s never good for them is when you’re overly ambitious when it comes to their accomplishments and talents, and you expect them to do everything perfectly.Something like this will never encourage them to give their all, but will, in fact, put them under a lot of pressure, and may even completely shut down their artistic side. Instead of correcting everything they do, it would be much smarter to talk about their art in a useful and interesting way, which will make them fall in love with it even more. For example:
This will show your little one that you are indeed interested in their art, and, at the same time, you’ll create a space where there’s no judgment.
Many studies have concluded that when kids interact with any type of art, it positively affects their cognitive flexibility and boosts their problem-solving skills.
A lot of parents have the tendency to “take over” when they work with their little one on a particular project, thinking that their kiddo isn’t mature and old enough to take the lead. But that’s actually a huge mistake, and can be very counterproductive. It doesn’t matter how old your child is. Allow them to be the leader, because then you will further strengthen their creative side.
Whenever you get the chance, you should encourage your kid’s artistic side, because that’s something that will positively influence their development, and, concurrently, have a kid who isn’t afraid to showcase their authentic self.
