The fashion world has been buzzing with excitement as New York Fashion Week (NYFW) returned with a bang, taking the city by storm, and it was a stormy affair indeed.

This season brought a mix of established and emerging designers, iconic brand comebacks, and even some unexpected twists. From the revival of Ralph Lauren and the debut of Peter Do for Helmut Lang to the dazzling presence of celebrities, NYFW had something for everyone. Here’s an overview of the highlights and standout moments from the week-long extravaganza.

One of the most anticipated moments of NYFW was the return of Ralph Lauren, who hadn’t staged a show since 2019. The event was a star-studded affair with A-listers like Diane Keaton, Julianne Moore, and Jennifer Lopez gracing the front row. Ralph Lauren himself stated, “I’m always in New York; I grew up here.” The showcase was opened by model Anna Ewers, the face of Ralph Lauren’s newest handbag, the RL 888. Supermodel Christy Turlington closed the runway in a body-conscious gold gown with a train that almost caused a snag, adding a touch of humor and humanity to the glitz and glamour.

Stuart Vevers celebrated his 10th anniversary as the creative director of Coach in style, with a show that included slouchy suits, oversized leather jackets, and lipstick-kiss bags. The event, held at the New York Public Library in Bryant Park, was attended by celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez and Lil Nas X. The unexpected PETA protest on the runway added an element of surprise to the show. Vevers explained that this season ventured into newer territory with tailoring and a sense of play that made the collection feel joyful.

NYFW wasn’t just about established brands; it also showcased the talents of emerging designers. Grace Ling and recent “Project Runway” winner Bishme Cromartie made their debuts, offering fresh and innovative perspectives. The week also marked the 10th anniversary of designer Rio Uribe‘s label, Gypsy Sport, adding an extra layer of celebration to the event.

The show drew an impressive array of celebrities, from Padma Lakshmi and Awkwafina at Prabal Gurung‘s show to Jennifer Lopez (once again) and Keri Russell at Ralph Lauren’s grand comeback. Christian Siriano‘s 15th-anniversary show featured a front row that included Janet Jackson, Laura Linney, and Laverne Cox, adding to the star power of the week.

Tory Burch‘s exploration of spacecore aesthetics brought forth a fusion of youthful energy and athletic elegance. The runway unveiled a series of cocoon-like dresses adorned with unique hoop designs, radiating an almost extraterrestrial allure. Complementing these avant-garde dresses were sleek, space-inspired jackets, and the entire look was elevated with edgy moto-inspired sunglasses. These ensembles felt like they were born to conquer the cosmos or embark on a high-speed adventure, demonstrating Burch’s knack for blending comfort and fashion-forward sophistication, pushing the boundaries of style.

NYFW showcased a range of fashion trends for the upcoming season. The runway offered a glimpse of what’s to come, from modern coquette styles with a twist to leisurewear inspired by retro undergarments. Sheer clothing, color blocking, and dramatic silhouettes were prevalent throughout the shows, with designers pushing the boundaries of creativity.

Several designers at NYFW embraced sustainability by exploring new materials. Some used winery’s discarded grape skins for leather, while others incorporated ancient textile processes. Studio 189, co-founded by Rosario Dawson and Abrima Erwiah to promote African fashion, celebrated African artisans and emphasized the importance of handmade textiles in their collections.

The love for vivid scarlet shades continued to dominate the runway at NYFW. Designers showcased sequined pieces, scarlet leather, sheers, and asymmetrical eveningwear, proving that this striking hue is here to stay.

New York Fashion Week once again demonstrated its ability to captivate and inspire with a mix of established brands, emerging talents, star-studded front rows, and an array of fashion trends. From the grand comeback of Ralph Lauren to the subversive moments on the runway, NYFW was a celebration of creativity, self-expression, and the ever-evolving world of fashion.
