Uliana Batashova, a rising star in modern pentathlon, brings both athleticism and artistry to her sport. As she prepares for her first Olympic Games, she has teamed up with FOXYLAB NY to create a unique design that merges her family’s noble heritage with contemporary style. Inspired by the Batashov coat of arms, her collaboration reflects the deep connection between history, sport, and self-expression—perfectly aligning with FOXYLAB NY’s vision of blending fashion and art.

You are getting ready for your first Olympics. Is it difficult to be prepared in all 5 disciplines at the same time?

The most important aspect in preparing to compete in 5 different disciplines is balance. You can’t focus just on one.

The design you and Felix created contains your family coat of arms, what is the story behind it?

The Batashov family has noble origins, they have been merchants, and engaged in industrial management. One of the biggest copper factory in Russia belonged to Batashov family and they produced samovars, the famous tea urns used widely in Russia. A lot of samovars are exhibited in the museums or belong to private collections. The historical enormous estates of Batashov family can be found in Russian cities like Moscow and Tula. Me and my family visited the location of a huge Batashov palace in Moscow once, but only now there it is a home to Moscow city hospital.

It is fascinating that your coat of arms has an image of a horse on it, and one of the disciplines in modern pentathlon is the equestrian. Are you pretty fond of horses?

When I saw our family coat of arms for the first time, I was quiet surprised to see a unicorn. At that time, I was already in modern pentathlon, and I was amazed by such fatal twist: unicorns on the coat of arms, me training equestrian in modern pentathlon. I love horses, I enjoy training and having contact with them, they are truly fascinating.

Where are you going to wear the FOXYLAB NY t-shirt designed by you and Felix?

First what comes to mind, is to a competition. I could also wear it to an interview or a TV show, or just simply wear it for a stroll around the city.

What kind of style can you associate with modern pentathlon?

It is a combination of all styles, and even those that don’t seem to go together. In modern pentathlon everything is harmonious.

In your opinion, what connects modern pentathlon with art?

The art of transformation. Just like actors, we transition from one role to another for performance in each discipline. All those roles are very different, and we have to be the particular actors that can handle this kind of transition.

If you could be impeccable in any kind of art (painting, sculpting, music, dancing, acting, etc) what type of art would it be? Why?

I have my personal brand Under By Me. Modern pentathlon pushes me to inventing creative ideas. In modern pentathlon you become multifaceted and well-developed in all directions, but you want to keep exploring and looking for different ways of self-expression. I aim to keep revealing the deep and complex connection between modern pentathlon and art.
