Coach is officially launching Coachtopia, a sub-brand of bags, shoes, small leather goods, and ready-to-wear, which are designed and constructed with little-to-no new materials and leave no trace behind, in an attempt to produce sustainable fashion.

Stuart Vevers, the designer behind the Coach brand, has experimented with sustainable design for some time, with recent collections using odd-shaped pieces of scrap leather and recycled denim.

The Wavy Dinky bag, one of the inaugural designs, is designed for ease of disassembly and repair, with core elements ensuring a long life in the real world. A process to repurpose the detritus of bag making by “pressing” thin straps of leather together to create a new material has resulted in the creation of one-of-a-kind handbags with a distinctly Gen Z feel. The “Coachtopia Beta Community,” made up of Gen Z individuals, was assembled to provide feedback at various steps during the design, creative, and marketing processes. The illustrations for Coachtopia were designed by Sabrina Lau, a member of the Coachtopia Beta Community.
