The Anticipation for Art Basel 2023
The Art Basel 2023 in Paris, dubbed as “Paris+ par Art Basel”, is eagerly anticipated by the global art community. Building on the success of the inaugural Parisian edition in 2022, this year’s event is set to further cement Paris’s position as a prominent hub for contemporary art in Europe.

The event will take place at the Grand Palais Éphémère from October 20 to 22, 2023, with two VIP preview days on October 18 and 19. This year, the fair will feature 154 galleries, showcasing the works of both renowned and emerging artists.
Adding to the excitement is the announcement of an expanded public program, which includes citywide exhibitions, outdoor installations, and a series of talks. This multi-faceted approach aims to provide a more accessible and immersive art experience for the public.
Noteworthy is the collaboration between Art Basel and the Musée du Louvre, resulting in a curated exhibition in the Tuileries Garden. This reinforces the fair’s commitment to integrating art into the city’s public spaces and fostering a wider audience engagement.
Moreover, the fair’s public program will feature a performance by British artist Blackhaine, adding a unique dimension to the anticipated event.

Highlights or Should We Say, Art-Lights?
– Futuristic Renaissance: Sculptures this year seemed to teleport between eras. Half robotic, half 16th-century style – it’s time-travel without a machine!
– Macaron Madness: In true Parisian style, there was an installation entirely made of macarons. Spoiler Alert: They weren’t for eating, though many tried!
– Mona Who? The legendary lady got some rivals this year. Emerging artists presented their takes on portraitures, challenging the age-old standards.
– Did Someone Say Fashion? It’s Paris. Of course, there was fashion! Artists and attendees alike strutted their stuff, making the alleys look like runways. From paint-splashed overalls to neon tutus, creativity was the only dress code.
– The Ghost of Picasso? Rumour has it that a mysterious figure resembling Picasso was spotted sketching the Seine’s banks. Was it a ghost or just an imaginative attendee?

– Hip hop beats, and urban dance grooves?
Stepping out from the imaginative corners of Manchester artist Tom Heyes is Blackhaine – a character where body ink waltzes with hip hop beats, and urban dance grooves to the tunes of industrial music. Sharing the stage with global powerhouses like Playboi Carti and Kanye West, he’s not just a performer; he’s an eclectic aura that echoes legends like Jean Genet and Sarah Kane. Blackhaine’s performances? Think of them as electrifying jolts, reminiscent of Artaud’s Theater of Cruelty, pouring both physical fervor and enthralling sonic waves. As the Parisian spotlight awaited him, Blackhaine, donning his dual hat of a choreographer and rapper, chatted with Charles Teyssou and Pierre-Alexandre Mateos the maestros behind Paris+ par Art Basel’s 2023

The exhibit showcases joint projects and unique pieces from artists such as Takashi Murakami, Damien Hirst, Stephen Sprouse, Richard Prince, Yan Pei-Ming, Refik Anadol, and Yayoi Kusama. Additionally, there are five new entries to the Artycapucines Collection on display.

Art Basel Paris: A New Chapter in European Art Scene
Art Basel’s Paris edition marks a significant change in the European art landscape. The 2023 Paris+ par Art Basel, in its second year, has already gained recognition for its innovative approach and unique offerings. It utilizes the entire city as an exhibition space, with public programming in various iconic locations such as the Jardin des Tuileries, the Place Vendôme, the Chapelle des Petits-Augustins des Beaux-Arts de Paris, and the Palais d’Iéna.
As part of its unique art offerings, the Chapelle des Petits-Augustins des Beaux-Arts de Paris will exhibit Jessica Warboys ‘THIS TAIL GROWS AMONG RUINS’ (2023), a captivating work featuring a single-channel video and large unstretched paintings. Jessica Warboys’s continually evolving collection of symbolic items is a lengthy black candle with dual ends. Crafted with a hook at both terminations, it evokes the idea of a guiding staff for dual realms. As its twin flames advance along a common wick, what they approach also concurrently vanishes.
Additionally, the Palais d’Iéna will host a joint project by renowned artists Daniel Buren and Michelangelo Pistoletto, curated by Matthieu Poirier. “The two artists, celebrated in some of the world’s most prestigious museums and institutions, will present an exhibition of their works, a large-scale project conceived and realised in dialogue with the specific characteristics of the building,” says Galleria Continua.
This year, the fair will emphasize the French capital’s rising prominence in Europe’s contemporary-art scene, signaling a shift in the balance of power as London’s status seems to teeter. This transformation is further evident in the robust lineup of European exhibitors and the inclusion of 21 first-time galleries. The fair’s unique blend of museum exhibitions, gallery shows, pop-up spaces, and satellite fairs promises a diverse and stimulating experience for art enthusiasts around the globe.

A thin edge of seduction and the consumerism fetish is thoroughly blurred in Acosta’s art in the use of both light, and dark tones. Bold lines serve as a fashionable juxtaposition of a peaceful dream-like state and a vivid color, representing action and presence in the moment.
