Supporting Digestive Wellness Through Everyday Choices

A lot of people aren’t aware of the impact that digestive wellness has on their being, not only physically but also mentally! That’s because they take it (just like many other things) for granted. And then, when they wake up one day and feel a tummy ache, or they experience irregular bowel movements, then suddenly, they realize how both of these things can seriously disrupt their day and life, in general. That’s exactly why it’s of huge importance to be responsible when it comes to this and support your GI tract in every way you can. If you want to unveil the most efficient strategies, then check out the ones that are about to be enumerated!

Good Hydration Is So Important!

Water is the ultimate treat for your digestive system. It works behind the scenes to absorb and move nutrients, keep your body temperature from spiking, and whip up the protective mucus your gut needs to stay healthy. Plus, it keeps things moving smoothly to prevent constipation. When you don’t drink enough and get backed up, your gut bacteria take a serious hit and start to shrink in numbers. If you’re slacking on your hydration, your body won’t hesitate to call you out.
Not drinking enough quickly triggers thirst, a nagging headache, a dry mouth, fewer trips to the bathroom, dizziness, and total exhaustion. To keep everything running perfectly, make sure you’re drinking up; having about four to six cups a day works wonders for most people.

Probiotics And Prebiotics Are A Must!

In the gut health landscape, both probiotics and prebiotics are renowned for being extremely beneficial. They are a perfect natural gut restoration that you can get through food consumption or in the form of supplements. Both are equally effective. If you decide to get prebiotics through various food items, then you should eat the following:
  • Flax seeds
  • Veggies, like artichokes, asparagus, and others
  • Legumes
  • Chia seeds
  • Whole grains
On the other hand, if you want to level up probiotic consumption, then you should increase intake of these food items:
  1. Kimchi
  2. Yogurt and kefir
  3. Sauerkraut
  4. Kombucha
  5. Apple cider vinegar
Although lots of people are not too fond of fermented foods, that doesn’t change the fact that they are an amazing support for your GI tract. If by any chance you are not willing to give them a try, then you can replace them with healthy things, like Greek yogurt. You can combine it with other healthy stuff, such as strawberries, bananas, blueberries, or anything else that’s yummy yet gut-friendly.

You Need To Establish A Balanced Eating Routine

What you put on your plate is a huge deal, but how you actually handle mealtime matters just as much. Eating a ton of different foods is the best way to load your body up with various nutrients and types of fiber.  Sneaking in a good mix of fruits, veggies, whole grains, beans, nuts, and seeds is an easy win for adding variety to your diet, as long as they agree with your system. It’s also super helpful to get into a steady mealtime routine.  Skipping meals only to inhale a massive portion later usually leaves you feeling bloated and uncomfortable, while just slowing down and eating at a relaxed pace makes everything way easier on your stomach.  At the end of the day, there is no single flawless eating schedule that works for everyone. The real goal is just finding a daily routine that gets you the nutrition you need while fitting into your life without a struggle.

Detrimental Habits Should Be Eliminated From Your Life

No person is perfect, and no one expects you to lead a 100% clean life; however, it would be great if you managed to steer clear of certain harmful things, or at least drastically reduce them. This refers to:
  • Smoking – It is widely known how detrimental smoking can be, not solely for your gut, but for the overall body as well!
  • Alcohol – One glass or two every now and then won’t cause massive damage, but excessive amounts of it can surely irritate your GI tract, which can later result in imbalances in gut bacteria
  • Junk food – If you cannot eliminate it fully from your life, then be sure to eat it only on special occasions because they are super unhealthy and can even inflame your gut.
Every day is a new chance to start from scratch and take all the necessary steps that will positively influence your digestive health. The abovementioned strategies will certainly contribute to that!
