VANN is proud to announce the launch of its latest collection, a bold exploration of visual dualities that seamlessly merges digital landscapes with the distinctive visual language of Japanese manga. Venturing into highly graphic territory, the collection features intricate imagery concealed behind barriers, creating a voyeuristic experience.
VANN defines “Purity” through a carefully curated selection of iconic motifs. Shimmering shōjo-style eyes and anthropomorphic animal characters take center stage. This season, several visuals were created by blending the themes of the “deeply cute” and the “very dark,” characteristic of Japanese manga for adults. By incorporating the fluid elements emblematic of this underground culture, the brand captures both an idealized vision and something raw and visceral, laying the foundations for an aesthetic nostalgia imbued with innocence.
Among the line’s key pieces are pendants shaped like traditional talismans. While these forms have historically symbolized good fortune, VANN reinterprets them as vessels for intimate and unconventional concepts, creating a “Talisman of Transgression” that serves as a protective shield for unspoken imaginations.
This dialogue between the hidden and the visible echoes the late 18th-century tradition of “lover’s eyes”, clandestine miniature portraits depicting a lover’s gaze, worn to preserve a secret bond. Here, VANN’s embedded anime imagery functions as a contemporary “lover’s eye.” By protecting these icons within a metal framework, the brand merges neoclassical romanticism with subtle subversion, allowing each wearer to carry a secret, restrained gaze close to the body.
Beyond the graphic-focused pieces, the rest of the collection explores a purely structural narrative. While these creations omit any literal imagery, they retain the same “barrier” detail, this time accented with hand-painted brushstrokes that evoke the craftsmanship of illustration. Continuing the talismanic theme, other pieces take on the appearance of ancient artifacts and sacred treasures, grounding the digital concept in a physical and timeless form.
