In a historic move, Feeric Fashion Week, the oldest and most significant fashion event in Romania, recently embraced a transformative journey by becoming a part of the Fur Free Retailer program initiated by Humane Society International/Europe. This year’s event, held in Sibiu from July 19th to 23rd, proudly showcased its first-ever fur-free edition, making a bold statement about its commitment to ethical and sustainable fashion. Led by Mitichi Preda, Feeric Fashion Week has been an instrumental platform for young fashion talent from different countries, drawing in specialized press and international experts for fourteen years.

Breaking away from the norm, Feeric Fashion Week offers a complete experience that not only showcases incredible locations for fashion shows but also nourishes and uplifts young fashion graduates. The Feeric Hub, a central aspect of the project, provides a platform for students from universities across Central and Eastern Europe, the Balkans, Central Asia, and North Africa to present their creative work.

Before the stunning presentations took place in various parts of Sibiu, a series of lectures by international experts set the stage for reflection on the present and future of fashion. Mira Postolache, MA Mentor and Lecturer at Moodart Fashion School of Communication Verona; Landiana Cerciu, Vice President of Feeric Fashion Week and Editor-in-Chief of Modic Magazine; Donald Gjoka, founder of Coeval Magazine; and Giovanni Ottonello, Global Creative Director of IED, Istituto Europeo di Design, provided valuable insights during workshops and discussions.

The subsequent three days were filled with presentations from different participating universities, all of which were part of a well-curated program. Ana Farîma’s Metamorphosis collection kicked off the Feeric Venue presentation series at Cine Gold, followed by Camelia Ienciu’s collection inspired by Ricardo Bofill’s iconic architectural work, Muralla Roja. A collective presentation by students from the New Bulgarian University added diversity to the lineup.

One striking location that left a lasting impression was the Prodial sorting station in Tălmaciu, where the students of the University of Arts in Belgrade showcased their creations. It served as a stunning backdrop and demonstrated the meaningful themes and concerns reflected in the students’ designs, such as mental health, female empowerment, and environmental responsibility.

The second day saw presentations by students from the University of Krakow and the International Balkan University at the Feeric Venue. Hooldra and Alexandru Fediuc from the University of Arts in Iași showcased exceptional collections at Festival Lake, displaying a unique and identifiable aesthetic.

The equestrian presentation at Colț de Rai was the highlight of the event. Students from the University of Arts and Design in Cluj Napoca presented their work alongside horses, creating a unique and visually stunning spectacle. Notably, young designer Corina Caravasili‘s meticulously crafted pieces and Matis Raul‘s distinct style stood out amidst the enchanting setting.

The third and final day commenced with a presentation by students from Unarte Bucharest at the geometric Boromir factory. It was followed by an inspiring journey through the textile heritage of Șara Făgărașilor, aptly named the “Warp of Times,” held at Cine Gold Sibiu. The last individual presentation took place in the pedestrian walkway connecting the courtyard of the Brukenthal Museum to the Împăratul Romanilor Hotel, where students of the UFEG Faculty in Ukraine unveiled their collective collection.

The grand finale, the Feeric Gala, featured collections by Georgia Chioni from Athens Fashion Club, Kimono & Me, La blouse Roumaine, Bujra Al Hajar, and students from the Faculty of Textile Technology of the University of Zagreb and the Academy of Music and Fine Arts in Chisinau. The event concluded with heartfelt gratitude to all attendees, emphasizing the need to continue supporting young talents in the fashion industry.

As the curtain fell on another successful edition of Feeric Fashion Week, it is evident that the event’s journey towards ethical and sustainable fashion has only just begun. With its resolute stance on fur-free fashion and dedication to fostering young talent, Feeric Fashion Week is positioned to inspire transformation across the fashion landscape in Romania and beyond. By embracing compassion and innovation, this venerable event continues to pave the way for a fashion industry that respects animals, cherishes the planet, and empowers emerging designers.
